What is Electric Rust?

Electric Rust is a one man project focused on handcrafted guitar pedals inspired by vintage fuzzes, garage tones and old school electronics. Every pedal is built one by one in Rome, Italy using true point to point or dead bug style construction, with a strong focus on feel, dynamics and personality rather than mass production.

Are these pedals PCB based?

Most Electric Rust pedals are built using true point to point or dead bug style wiring instead of traditional printed circuit boards.

This approach allows more freedom in layout, easier servicing, experimentation and a more organic handmade construction style inspired by vintage electronics and early fuzz circuits.

Are point to point pedals fragile?

Not at all when properly executed.

Point to point wiring itself is not inherently unreliable when properly executed and mechanically supported. Vintage amps, radios and a lot of early electronic equipment were built this way and many are still working decades later.

The important part is the quality of the build itself: solid mechanical connections, good wire routing, proper solder joints and component support. A badly made PCB can sometimes be more fragile than a well executed point to point circuit.

This particular construction style has already survived real world abuse. One personal build was dropped on the ground many times. The only thing that broke was the transparent acrylic back plate near one of the screws. The pedal itself kept working perfectly.

So far these pedals have been shipped by air all over the world without a single unit arriving damaged or failing because of the construction method.

These builds are designed for musicians and real world use, not just to sit on a shelf.

Do point to point fuzz pedals pick up RF noise?

Vintage style fuzz circuits can naturally be more sensitive to RF interference compared to modern buffered designs.

Point to point layouts can also become more susceptible to RF if the lead dress is poorly executed. Careful wire routing, grounding and short signal paths help a lot, and the metal enclosure itself acts as shielding.

A lot of classic fuzz circuits are inherently vulnerable to RF from modern devices like LED lighting, dimmers, fridges, phone chargers or switching power supplies. Reducing that sensitivity too aggressively would often change the original behaviour and character of the circuit, so there is always a balance between stability and preserving the raw vintage feel.

So far these builds have been surprisingly quiet in real world use 🙂

Are the pedals mass produced?

No.

Each pedal is assembled, wired, drilled, painted and tested individually by hand. Small imperfections or slight visual differences are part of the handmade nature of the builds.

What power supply do the pedals use?

Unless explicitly stated otherwise, all Electric Rust pedals use standard 9V DC center negative power supplies (Boss style polarity).

An isolated power supply is always recommended, especially for vintage style fuzz circuits.

Do the pedals work with daisy chains?

Sometimes yes, but isolated outputs are strongly recommended.

Vintage inspired circuits, germanium fuzzes and valve based pedals can react differently depending on the power source and surrounding devices.

Why do the pedals have transparent back plates?

All Electric Rust pedals come with a custom made transparent acrylic back plate that reveals the internal wiring and construction style.

A standard metal back plate is also included when applicable.

Can I order a custom build?

Yes.

Most pedals are built in very small batches or entirely by custom order. You can get in touch via DM or through the newsletter for availability, commissions or special requests.

Are these pedals tested before shipping?

Every pedal is personally tested, biased and played before shipping.

No two units are ever completely identical, and final tuning is often done by ear during the build process.
